Moo-ve Over ‘Baby Shark,’ Baby Hippo Moo Deng Has Her Own Insanely Catchy Theme Song Now

The world’s newest internet sensation, a pygmy hippo named Moo Deng, has won hearts around the globe, and now she’s got a catchy anthem to match. Released in English, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese, the track "Moodeng Moodeng" has a retro '60s TV show vibe and is practically guaranteed to get stuck in your head. In this upbeat, 51-second song, singers chant lines like, “Moodeng Moodeng deng deng deng deng deng deng,” and “Mommy mommy, play with me / Please mommy come play with me,” capturing the lovable and playful essence of Moo Deng.

The song, written by Thai composer Mueanphet Ammara and released by GMM Music, celebrates Moo Deng’s rise to fame following her debut videos shared by Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Clips feature the baby hippo stumbling, slipping onto her belly, and playing with her mother, showcasing her adorable antics and clumsy charm. With a name that translates to “bouncy pork,” Moo Deng has enchanted viewers worldwide and amassed a large following online.

Even Saturday Night Live got in on the fun with Bowen Yang dressing as Moo Deng in a skit where the hippo humorously addressed her newfound fame, blending comedy with a critique of the pressures of viral stardom. In the sketch, Yang as Moo Deng playfully addressed the challenges of being everyone’s “parasocial bestie” while trying to maintain her privacy in her enclosure.

Despite some misunderstandings from critics who felt the sketch may have mocked artist Chappell Roan, Yang clarified on social media that his portrayal was meant to be a light-hearted nod, not a critique.
